I was teetering on the line of CI and with todays tests I became eligible. It wasn't a hard decision for me. Because my hearing fluctuates so much with menieres, so I turned it down. I didn't even have the whole conversation with my Audi. The nice thing was he understood and he didn't try to push it at me or anything and he respected my decision. So he cleaned my hearing aids, I did get fitted for soft molds though, I want to try to see if they are better than the hard ones and then I went home :)

It's understandable that you'd not want a CI given your fluctuaing loss. If your loss got worse to the point where your hearing aids no longer helps, would you consider a CI?

I think I would consider it. I am trying to learn more and more about them and I weigh the pros and cons of every situation in my life. This has all just happened so quickly sometimes I get very down about it and I don't know what to do or think. It is something that I would discuss in depth with my audi, my family and of course juggle it around in my head. I suppose now would be the time to start thinking of it. My hearing isn't getting any better and won't so its a harsh reality I have to think about...

good luck on your endeavor, Candy! I see that music is a big part of your life so you may end up getting one after all. Better get borg'ed up!

Good. It's not something to take lightly as this is irreversible. I can see why you'd want to consider this carefully.

It's great that you know you are eligible for a cochlear implant as you may change your mind if your hearing detoriates

Yes definitely, I am glad the option is there if I choose to take it. Trust me when and if I decide to get it you guys will be amongst the first to know :)

It's good to know we all have options with todays technology and will have more options with tomorrows technology. My condolences for your progressive hearing loss and good luck to the choice you make and the day you make them.

That's good for you to consider about get CI. :)

My hearing aids are not helping me either. I suppose to have CI surgery today but it's postponed. The implant didn't get in hospital yet. I was disappointed.

I can imagine. Do you have one ear that's deafer then the other? Do you have tintintuas along with Meniere's? There is a 50/50 chance that your Menirere's could be helped with a CI. You can also go bimodal......

I have noticed that a lot of late deafened who get CI, then desert us and stop posting.

What do you think you will do if you do get implanted?

Oh yes.....the CI is an awesome option for people with progressive losses!

Yes my right ear is deafer than my left and I have terrible tinnitus. I have it nearly 24/7 in both ears and its the one thing I struggle with the most. Its enough to make a person crazy most days. But I am learning to deal with it. There is nothing worse than the sound I hear all the time, especially at night when I try to sleep.

:giggle: I think you are kind of stuck with me. lol I wouldn't leave this site. Everyone here has helped me in one form or another through this whole thing Bottes. More than my friends off of here my family.. more than anyone I know. I have made life long friends here and this isn't just a forum. This is real people, behind these words that have forever made an impact on me. I'm not going anywhere, with or without implant :)

So many AD'ers are so informed about CI's....I'd like to post a question....when I had a hearing test 2 weeks ago, it shows I'm profound deaf...and of course, again, the subject of CI came about.....she told me...."If you get implanted, for the 1st year, you're gonna "hate" me because there is some pain involved....but after the 1st year, you're gonna "love me"!

I'm waiting to see a new ENT about the infections that are constant....and the tennitus is getting worse also. (Next month, July).

I feel, that at my age, I have nothing to lose! But it's the infections and pain are my concern (many years)....

Being able to hear music again would be awesome, even at my age!....I was late-deafened at age 14....any input here?

CBE Thats fantastic to hear that you have the opition to choose from if the time comes.

Rockin Robin... umm I have to be honest with you I NEVER have any pain from CI but I did and many others had emotional rollercoaster with the CI during first few months as we are learning (relearning in late deafen) the sounds and understanding them.

If you do get frequent ear infections I would think about getting it settled first. Are you wearing HA's??

Having never heard Music Pre CI (only feel) I am in awe with my Ipod now days and began to recongise who's playing... I am also listening to Audiobooks down loaded onto my Ipod.

NO....never wore a hearing aid in my life. I went deaf "overnight" due to surgery on both ears....(damaged nerves), and have no ear drums.....Too much trauma to my head and ears.....One doctor told me that since I've had 4 surgeries, that there would be no more for me and the infections will remain!....That I have to deal with them and the pain.......Now, I'm to see another ENT....and maybe see if there is something else that can be done for me......I'm not sure if chronic infections can cause you to have infection to the brain linings.....as someone told me that also....so it worries me also!

But since I still have my speech....they say I'm an excellent candidate....it's just the infections and pain that are holding me back...will know more later when I see the new ENT....Thks for the response!
