I need to find parenting classes "specifically" for the deaf in the Atlanta Area. No, not for me.

I have never ever heard of any parenting classes specifically for the deaf in my area and thought I would post to see if perhaps there are some that I am unaware of.

Parenting classes "specifically for the deaf?" No such thing.
If the state ordered it, they are obliged to provide interpreters in any class.

No such thing, sorry man! Even down here in world's largest Deaf population city, we don't even have one. But yes, we do have group here and it is not official parent classes.

um.... I'm bit confused.

if you're being put to task by an attorney and you "gladly" accepted it... then you should know what you're doing. You're putting us to task for you now.....

Yes, I know you get easily confused.

I have never heard of parenting classes specifically for the deaf, that is why I was asking.

then that's the answer you should be telling him - "never heard of it. no such thing."

Part of knowing what you are doing is making sure there is no such thing first ;)

But .... thanks to another AD'er there is such a thing as Parenting Skills Counseling for deaf couples specifically. So, I am going to pass that info along.

did anybody say there's such a thing in this thread?

Parenting Skills Counseling for deaf couples specifically

I was going to say it's probably for deaf parents because they either provide services for the deaf or the classes are in ASL.

Be sure that the parenting class is accepted by the court. The attorney may have to get a written order to protect her client. This option is so much better than getting a terp for a hearing parenting class. Glad to see it exists.

Me too.

I don't have kids, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about... But personally I would actually be offended at a parenting class specifically for the deaf. To me it reminds me of people who think deaf people need extra instruction doing basic every day things, like driving, using a computer, etc - as if deafness means less intelligence. I'd much rather attend a regular parenting class with an interpreter. But that's just me.

I still think it's about hearing- deaf communication barrier,

however it also occurred to me that the deaf parenting creates its own set
of challenges that hearing does not have.

perhaps it is not such a bad idea after all?
