Hello,

I am a diversity manager for Region 3 U.S. Fish and Wildlife in Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Our offices have just had the opportunity to hire a dynamite employee away from the Army Corp of Engineers, he happens to be deaf.

Beside asking him how he best wants to be accomodated I also wanted to give him some links to the Fort Snelling deaf community, if one exists. I've seen people signing but not recently.

Does anyone on this site know of a resource?

Thanks in advance, robert_grant @fws.gov

Thanks for the hello Country Gal,

As far as local community I haven't found anything official but, I ran into two ladies who were signing in the building cafeteria. I introduced myself and asked them to come up for a meeting where I introduced Andrew.

They exchanged email address and chatted for a little while, I took off since I don't sign and looked like an idiot standing there.

We are having a workspace evaluation to see if we can improve the area for individuals with hearing disabilities.

I am going to have to learn some sign language to interact better though.

Wow!!! U are already making a difference by taking the effort. I admire u already!

I grew up deaf so if u have any questions, feel free to ask anything about deafness and our needs. :)

:welcome: to AD! :)
