both deaf school and elementary school are CONNECTED.  the deaf school was added to the elementary school building in very early 1960's. As to why the school was closed, there werent any actual students enrolled at the deaf school... only 1 was at the deaf school, all other deaf students were mainstreamed with interpreters at public schools.  The state said it wasn't worth the money to continue paying for the deaf school services with just only 1 student there. 

After 2000, the library and resource center for the deaf continued to be used at the deaf school building frequently; sign classes are taught to parents, new parents come to the library/resource for help and info, books and materials are always being checked out and sent to people throughout the entire state.  The deaf alumni was hoping that a small "museum" could be created at the current deaf school building.
