From what I know, HP wants to exit the PC industry. Their market share in the PC industry haven't rose much for a while. Same with Dell and many other brands.
So far, Apple is the one with the strongest PC growth, so I wouldn't say it's the PC industry that is the problem, it's the companies like HP, Dell and the others who are not getting it right.
