Were just visiting in city for 2-7 days. Keep in mind you're a tourist who just wants to ride around and enjoy the city. It can be Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, or Dallas, etc. I'm curious what you would want to spend on a bike. It doesn't matter if you're staying with a friend or at hotel. You've no way of bringing bike back with you when done. Now, I don't know about your city, but what Chicago has to offer is(see below):

Now as a guest in city for 2-7 days, what would you spend on a bike? There are different routes you would take. You would spend $75 on a bike and then sell it for $35 when done just to get rid of it. You would rent from Divvy for $7 per day. If you use it for 5 days, that is $35.

I don't know about you, but if given choice, would you prefer to rent it or sell it for a loss? Maybe even donate bike to thrift store when done? I'm curious about what you would do.

Will this much get me a bike for 2-7 days?

The problem with buying is the inconvenience of having to put it up for sale and wait for a potential buyer. And you may not get a buyer at all. Plus 75 bucks won't get a nice bike and if I was going to spending all day riding around I'd want a good comfortable bike.

As for renting, I would definitely pick that because I don't have to worry about maintaining it or selling it. And I would get a better quality bike out of it. A no brainer if you ask me.
