hard drive? I tried to format my hard drive but the message said i cant use window to format my hard drive. it has do be one of programs or soemthing like that...

For Windows XP to ME, I have no idea how to format. You might want to use Dell's Recovery. It should formate well. :dunno:

Did you know if you format..you would have to reinstall Windows? I am not sure if that is what you expect.

Windows cannot format the hard drive that it residents on. You would have to use a boot disk to be able to do that.

Which Windows verison are you talk about?

Insert your windows boot disk or cd in, and go to a DOS prompt. Then, FORMAT C:/S When finished, for Win98, I usually made a directory called win98 and copy all the Cab files to the hard drive. THen you won't need the cd again. Also, on 98, I partition it and make a swapfile partition. That is optional. It helps with performance. Anyways, afger copying the CABS, run the setup. I usually use SETUP /IE /IV /IS

All of them if you're formatting C:\.

For other partitions..it's no bother for reinstalling.

put bootdisk in A drive and restart the computer. If you on DOS. Type;
C:/Format C:

erm...that won't work. hehe

You said,

If you on DOS. Type; C:/Format C:

In your screenshot, you typed differently than what you said in bold,

format C:

This screenshot shows what I typed what exactly you said.

should be c:/format c:

not c:/c:/format c:

You must be blind not to notice this > character,

C:\>C:\format C:

You never said > in your previous posts.

Just give it up. You are making yourself look silly.

You just need to open up command then type what exactly you said,

If you on DOS. Type; C:/Format C:

You won't do double C:\ because what you see as the first C:\ is a prompt.

Crying for public support would not be a good idea.

Again, let me try to be more clearer because I will communicate you on the uneducated level.

Here is what exactly you said,

If you on DOS. Type; C:/Format C:

I typed what you said in RED.

This screenshot shows what I typed in RED.

Format did not work when I typed EXACTLY what you said.

SilenceGold and Master PePe are that correct! :)

First of all... May I ask why you want to format your computer..?

Formatting comes with great responisbility... DON'T format if you don't have your windows 98/NT/2000/XP if you don't have it, face it then you'll be screwed..

Formatting your computer, go into DOS mode and type in Format C:

Follow Silence Gold's instructions it is right.

Erm..I noticed that Master Pepe's posts were deleted...that makes my instructions seem way overboard. :/

ouch about master pepe posts, but you are right silencegold, just type "format c:" next to c prompt....I've had to reinstall several times before
