Going to the "Hearng" pep rally when your kids involved with sports. So how do you deal with the HEARING sport events?

For me, I have no relatives or parents who lives here. Drats!! will go there and bring my cell phone that keeps me busy, and watch at people, and "fake" saying Hello, how are you, im good to someone I know too little.

Too bad I don't have a hearing friend who have kids that attends to my kids' sports tonight. My boy's pep rally is tonight that I am not looking forward to but i will live. :)

I attended all my boys football, tennis and baseball games, even karate classes. At times, I had to juggle one over the other but it all evened out (3 boys). The coaches and their wives knew that I was deaf, and always took time to stop by where I sat to say "hello and how are you"?....I considered that a nice gesure!...I did not let my deafness mar my enjoyment of seeing my son(s) playing sports....actually, the only reason I was there was for my sons and to give them cheers and support....I also brought my camera, so that kept me pretty busy and camcorder when there was a playoff game.

Also, my sons, at half-time, would wave and even talk to me beyond the fence....and I do believe I was the loudest "cheerer" for my sons whenever they made a good play!....

Often, I would see some of my neighbors at the games, and of course, would speak/write notes with them too.

lol aww.... ya should watch your kid play and kick some ass! :aw:

I made friends with the hearing parents. I'm there to show my support for my child.

I go and meet all the parents on my children's team to find a few whom seem very comfortable with my deafness. Then, for the rest of the season, I sit by those few parents. I am honest and upfront with them. Some react with the usual deer caught in the headlights look and say "I am sorry" and then walk off. Others become more friendly. It all depends on each year.

There is no game tonight. It was just for the pep rally. I am glad that this evening went not bad. My boy enjoyed his time with his teams. There were food at snack shack, bake sale, play grounds, DJ, tug a war, dunk tank, jumpy house sack race and a few games. My girl and I walked around, watched at the varies of games and dunk tank. I took a few pictures of my boy when they announced to introduce each of the teams, coaches and kids names. There are about 7 football groups, and 4 cheerleading groups. (I think) I bumped into a couple of mothers that i know and had the small talk. My girl brought her bike so she would ride around and snoop around. Now I can relax and be my own self back.

 Thats funny. yeah some of them acted like that when they learned about me. Some of them knew that I am deaf that they told them about me. They did not know how to talk or have patience you know. We come to kids games and love watching kids playing sports. thats a plus.

My kids are not athletic and I don't push them to play sports. I took my kid to see his best friend play football last year. My kid was bored. lol

We just suck it up and do it for our kiddos because we are the adults.:P

Lucky you! My kid was athletic and I was a single parent so I couldn't send his dad, instead.:giggle:

I passed the nerd gene down. That way we have more in common. :giggle:

My son will start soccer this Friday so I will see how he likes it. So far, he seems to like theater better than sports. I need to start investigating on enrolling him to community theatere. Funny thing is, my daughter is the same way...not athletic at all but very theatrical.

I am a big time athlete so that will be weird for me if both my kids end up not being athletes at all. lol

It's so hot here that outdoor sports are really uncomfortable. Right now, the coaches have the football players out in 100F heat. Crazy!

I'm tempted to take the earthquake!

I saw kiddos (middle school age) out practicing in full football gear Monday night. As a parent, I'm not sure I would subject my child to that & if he *wanted* to do it, I'd have a hard time approving.

sounds like my kids..we are the most non sports family ever, which doesnt make my kids very popular in this hick, football obsessed little town.

Yea, me too. We're freaks here. It doesn't help that I still dress like I did in Colorado.
