how do you sign hill? Please post. thanks!

are you a native signer? I'm just wondering because I noticed there are no sign for hill, but there is a sign for mountain. I'm a non-native signer.

<-- a native signer...

I sign "hill" by making my hand look like its saying "B" and the fingers go toward to someone else and make it look like im making waves... ahh its hard to explain. anyone get what im saying?

use sign from ground flat then half round then flat I try my best to explain

Ah, makes sense. Well, I learned in university, many years ago, from a deaf teacher that (I grew up orally) if a word is less than 5 letters, fingerspell it. If it's more than 5 letters, it should have a sign. :dunno: I'm not that expert, but I pick up signs and fingerspellings pretty fast and well before I teach ASL class in college.

I've seen some people sign hill almost like petting an animal. Use your non-dominant hand as on the top of the hill, and use your dominant hand from that hand down to the bottom in shape of a hill. You with me?

Use "H" and move like wave in nice and easy.

If you went too fast and raw. It look like "Hell".

Yeah... for an example... when you drive on a flat land, you sign smooth flat land in front of you or on the sides of your eyes. If it's hilly, you sign up and down slightly and smoothly in front of you.

I just use flat hand and move it from down to up then down, as to describe a hill. The sign can be manipulated to show what the hill looks like though.

Ah, better explanation than mine. That's it. :thumb:

This is both for HILL and HILLY.
Or if you are driving on a hilly road, with many hills, then you sign like this...

"DRIVE" move this sign up and down, as if you are driving up and down hills.

I do the same thing, and if the person doesn't get it, then I'll fingerspell.
