You lay on ground with arm covered your head. The bear will gradually smell you, as long as you don't have food on you, the bear will leave you alone.
But there's a small chance of the bear staying in the area for a long time. If that happens, do not move at all, ever until the bear has eaten all of the food you had at teh campsite.
Another one is to have a huge branch, light it on fire, and swing it to the bear. Works on lions, vultures, and tigers.
Very useful if you live in the forest. But most of the time, a person would be equipped with something to defend oneself.
