So I'm learning sign language [I'm hearing] and I'm finding it very difficult to not use SEE. How can I make using proper ASL grammar easier?

Also- many hearing signers say the words they are signing (obviously) but in English grammar. How do they keep track of it? Is this how you should do it?

You definitely are not using SEE as a novice signer. SEE is actually quite complex.

If you want to avoid just stringing a bunch of signs together in English order, go take a class. With a Deaf teacher.

If you don't want to use SEE or any other form of signed English, then make sure you're taking ASL classes, like Bottesini posted.

No, you should not use simultaneous speech and signing (called SIM-COM). Yes, there are some people who are skilled at that (although the signing usually ends up more PSE when that happens) but that is definitely not something a student should do. When you are learning ASL you should practice with your voice OFF. The only sounds you should make are ones that are ASL appropriate (like PAH!), or to pronounce a finger-spelled name.
