I want to know how pay for AVT even though my budget is rather tight. My father has just told me that I may not get AVT when I get back to NC because of my limted fianical rescoures and I'm wondering how to get around this problem. He doesn't think the goverment will help me with it. He says AVT is like 150 dollars an hour. He can't afford it either.

I'm especially intersted in how others on Medicare have managed to pay for AVT and I want to know how I can get around this situation so that I can work on my listening skills as I can't afford AVT. How can I get around this?

Here's a couple of ideas: try contacting either AVT itself, they used to be based in the DC area or one of their local chapters to see if they might have any ideas and/or suggestions as to how to get funding. Also, you might want to find an AVT therapist and ask him/her the same questions.

Good luck, hope everything works out ok.

Just did a quick google search and agbell.org might be a good starting point for information.

I'm on Medicaid and Medicare and I get speech therapy 2x a week. It is completely covered by Medicare.

Thanks Lucia, I'll get in touch with the NC Medicare. MY father is certain that the goverment won't help but I'm going to ask around. He can be a bit too pessimatic. Let's hope the NC Medicare will take care of this.

i see AVT every week and i'm an employeed person with insurance.. however my insurance won't pay in full.. so i opt for 2nd insurance.. called MA-EPD means "medical assistance for employeed person with disabilty" with that i'm happy and they pay in full for AVT and any other medical bills.

other way you can try to contact colleges.. and have some student practice with you.. they tend to be much cheaper.. or sometimes free.
or you can go one or maybe two times.. and get the idea how they do it with you.. then have your family or friends help you.

Thank you, DeafSCUBA98. My father says Medicare won't help me but I'm not so certain about that.
