I am from Wyoming and will be going to International Societ of Poets at Las Vegas in July 20-24th this year. I will be honored with two separate and very special award of my poetry. I wrote my poem few days before last Christmas Day for my fiancee. My poet is indeedly published in book. The letter said that I will read my poem in front of amatuer poets from around the world. I wonder how can I find interpreter for me? If this does not help so will talk to my old interpreter from college who might help or know?

I also live in Wyoming, and understand the lack of qualified interpreters here. I would suggest getting in touch with the organization directly, and tellilng them you will need an interpreter.

Yes, that's the best way. They are responsible for providing and paying for the interpreter. Just be very specific about your communication needs.

Hey, seems to make more sense to me she would contact people in Las Vegas rather than Wyoming. Regardless, this is an intepreting issue, but it's also a performance issue. The person who will be voicing it will need to right tone and feeling to match your poem. You will definitely need prep time, and you probably will want an actor type person. Their sign skills are less important, (if they are just voicing what you sign and not signing from English) because they will have the script in from of them and with enough prep time be able to memorize it and then adjust it to how you sign it that day, (if you are nervous, change a word, whatever). Good luck, night---

I read too quickly; I missed the part about Las Vegas location.

Yes, interpreting poetry is a special skill, and should be rehearsed.

I will contact WyRID office not far from here. I know one person who is president of WyRID. Yes I will need good interpreter to stand beside me. Interpreter will need to read my poety first before. I will put my poem here in new thread later sometime in May or June.

Hello. I'm from Wyoming too, and I live in Wyoming, still. The WyRID President is a good friend of mine too. I see her frequently. I will let her know that you're looking for an interpreter for your trip, if you haven't found one or two yet. Do you mind PM me who you are so I can inform her the information better? Thanks. God Blessings!

Poetry.com found an interpreter for me. I talked with Lisa at college you might know her. We had talked about getting interpreter there for me. I will PM you right after this. Thanks!

One way to find yourself a terp is to go to the closest vrs call center and talk to the terps , pester them to help u, and maybe physically drag a terp out to help u. Put up a sob scene if u have to.

That would certainly motivate me to help someone. I love being pestered, manipulated, and physically dragged.

I'm wondering where abouts in wyoming are you from? I'm from wyoming myself and thinks it's amazing that there are Deaf ppl there. Have you ever tried to attend WY-HI? It's a lot of fun and I miss attending those.
