Don't forget that in the 50s and 60s so many women had babies taken away from them and put into adoption.

 

The only thing that is going to lower unsupported births is better family planning education, easy and cheap access to birth control, and fathers paying for their children when they leave them with the mothers.   I don't think marriage is necessary to have a solid family.  In uh, Denmark?  one of the countries in that area, maybe the Netherlands most mothers are unmarried.  Something like 65%.  However, in that country you don't have to be married to get the benefits that you have to be married to get in the US.  With their better sex ed and better equality and support, they simply don't have the problems we do here.
