Some parents think it is cheaper, some parents think it is safer,
some parents probably racists, homophobe, or whatever...

but I saw this...

Police Search for Two Teens After Killings By MARTHA RAFFAELE, Associated Press Writer
36 minutes ago

LITITZ, Pa. - Police searched Monday for an 18-year-old man and his girlfriend, whose parents were found shot to death in their home. The girlfriend's sister told authorities she saw the young man kill her father.

Police said David G. Ludwig killed 14-year-old Kara Beth Borden's parents, Michael F. and Cathryn Lee Borden, after they and their daughter argued about her curfew. The girl was last seen after the shootings Sunday morning at the family's home in Warwick Township, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia.

"We don't know whether she has been abducted or is willingly a part of this," said Police Chief William Seace. Until they can determine otherwise, police are operating on the assumption that she has been kidnapped.

An Amber Alert for the two of them has been expanded to the entire eastern United States, Seace said Monday.

Kara Beth's 13-year-old sister, Katelyn, told investigators her father and mother were shot after they argued with Ludwig for about an hour, according to a police affidavit filed in court.

"As they got near the front door, Katelyn Borden saw David Ludwig with a handgun pointed toward her father and Katelyn saw David Ludwig pull the trigger, heard a gunshot, and then she ran into the bathroom," the affidavit said.

She heard a second shot — presumably the one that killed her mother — while hiding in the bathroom, it said. Ludwig then ran through the house calling for Kara, she told investigators.

The couple's 9-year-old son ran to the home of neighbors, who called 911, police said earlier.

Police late Sunday issued an arrest warrant for Ludwig on two counts of criminal homicide, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of kidnapping. He was last seen driving his parents' red Volkswagen Jetta.

"We think they're boyfriend and girlfriend," said Seace. "The young girl was out during the night, came home, and her parents confronted her."

Lancaster County Coroner G. Gary Kirchner said Monday that the victims, who were both 50, apparently died of single gunshot wounds to the head. Autopsies were being conducted.

"It's completely insane, completely insane," Kirchner said. "This isn't a Romeo-and-Juliet deal; this is far worse than that."

The Borden family had lived in their home for several years, said neighbor Tod Sherman, 47. Mike Borden worked for a printing company, and the children were home-schooled, he said.

Sherman said the family knew the 18-year-old suspect through a home-schooling network.

Stephanie Mannon, 16, said Ludwig and Kara Borden had been seeing each other secretly. :ugh:

"Their parents didn't approve of them being together" because of the age difference, she said. "It wasn't because he was a shady character, because he wasn't."

Both Ludwig and Kara Borden maintain Web sites. Hers refers to interests in soccer, art and her Christian faith; his says he enjoys "having soft air gun wars" and claims expertise in "getting in trouble." :ugh:

Neighbor John Hohman, 40, said his family got a phone call from officials Sunday morning warning them to stay inside. He said he looked out a window and saw police running through the neighborhood. Later, authorities told residents to go to their basements.

"We were really upset. We didn't know what was going on," Hohman said.

So how do you feel about Home Schooling?????? :dunno:

Actually it sounds like Kara may be one of those extremely sheltered types.....man I can't even IMAGINE dating someone who was 18 when I was fourteen.....the age diffy DOES matter! At fourteen, you're still a kid....at eighteen you're about ready to go off to college.
Oh, and homeschooling DOES hypershelter kids too much....some kids do well and really thrive, but other kids turn out to be not very well educated beyond being able to quote Scripture till they are blue in the face.

Homeschooling is a cute concept. However that creates subjective relationships between the child and the teacher.

Subjective teacher-student relationships do very little in the case of a child being abused either physically and or sexually. The child is not around professionals who are trained to detect abused children and report it to the proper authorities and take corrective action. Homeschooled children are most likely to have been abused than children who are in public schools.

Homeschooling is nice however it must be done with very close supervision from the the area's school district.

yeah I was watching the children who live 2 houses down from my house
and they are homeschooling...

Most of the time they stay in the house, then during the breaks
they go out and play, sometimes at night.

In their backyard, they have a big big jumping equipment
and they would jump up and down all day... and annoy the hell out of my puppy.

And then in the front yard, they have a basketball pole, the kids
played ball all day and sometimes at night.

I can not blame her parents for shelter their kids from violences at public school. At the end it paid with their lives for protecting their kids too much. No balance here.

well they should have cut off the internet, because internet is bad news.

Maybe we should Ban Handguns... maybe our schools will be safe.

i totally disagree about it, cuz, i think certificated teachers should teachs kids than parents, plus they need socialize themselve and understand the public and envirnoments. But i would understand if the kids have poor health or something permanently dieases, that very understandly but rather to be have certificated or experienced teachers than parents.

Homeschooling is not inherently bad.

I do think there needs to be some oversight from the county in terms of children's curriculums and how they're doing on standardized tests...but not much more than that. I know that probably not all parents should be homeschooling their children--but let me tell you how seriously I would take it, if I choose that option. Even when I first find out I am pregnant, I will start studying the curriculum and materials so that I am as proficient in them as I can be. I believe I have the academic background to do this--I would NOT take on the responsibility if I believed there was any chance I would shortchange my child. And, if (for instance) by the time of high school, I find I can no longer teach all of the subjects adequately, I would certainly put my child into a public or private school. NOT all home-school parents are unreasonable, mentally/intellectually unfit crazies.

Do you think it would be feasible--or even morally right--to place Social Services in the home of every child that's being homeschooled? What that does is automatically assume without probable cause that any child being homeschooled is being abused. It judges the parents without any evidence against them, and the vast majority likely do not abuse their children in any way.

Sheltering the kids too much is certainly a risk--but I think that if the parents are reasonable, this need not be the case. Horrible things happen to public and private school children, too.

I saw on the News, that California 92% high school students didn't do well in Math in SAT.

So, I guess the teachers aren't doing their jobs.

The topic is a :repost: Here is a recap of my previous posts on the topic:

If the public school system wasn't so bad not as many parents would have to homeschool.

Homeschooling doesn't make killers, and public schools don't prevent killers. And vice versa.

I personally know many home school families, and have done some myself. It is a perfectly acceptable alternative to public and private schools.

There is nothing wrong with protecting children from bad influences. There is a lot wrong with exposing children to bad influences.

Parents are responsible for the education, training, and care of their children; the state is not.

You mean the STAR exam. I'm sure the same 92% wouldnt want to take the SAT.

well I like public school better because it is fun...

I was in school plays, and I learn some music lesson...
and all... made friends...

It was cool to see some students trying out cheerleader and
trying out sports, and also trying to be Class President
and do good in Math... challenging.

And then I love the Rally, when students being silly and having so
much fun.

Participate in many stuff. Then to learn to do those things in Colleges
and thru life.

And it is cool to let your kids meet all kind of people, gays, blacks, and interact with other kids, even meet with kids with handicap.

And then go to nice PROM :dj:

And have your kids to learn to be popular and have them to tutor
other kids.

If you're worrying about bad influence, well then get on your kids' nerves
and scorn them to don't be around those bad kids, and look around
his or her room to see if there is any drugs...
And check with principal or teachers if your kids are doing well in school.
Discipline your child if do something wrong.

Encourage your kids to do afterschool activity...
And pay a lot of attention to your kids.

That is all.

See I could be a good parent.

Update...

BELLEVILLE, Ind. (Nov. 14) - A Pennsylvania teenager suspected of killing his girlfriend's parents in an argument over her curfew was captured in Indiana on Monday after a police chase that ended in a crash. The 14-year-old girl, who was in the car, was not hurt, authorities said.

David Ludwig, 18, and Kara Beth Borden were taken into custody around midday after he crashed his parents' car head-on into a tree in Belleville, some 600 miles from where the killings took place.

Police were questioning Ludwig but had not spoken with Kara. Because of her age, Indiana and Pennsylvania law requires a relative, guardian or attorney to be present.

Investigators said it was not immediately clear whether the girl was abducted or went along willingly, but they were operating on the assumption she was kidnapped.

Authorities said Ludwig shot Kara's parents, Michael F. and Cathryn Lee Borden, early Sunday after they and their daughter argued about her curfew when she came home late. The shootings happened at the family's home near Lititz, Pa., about 60 miles west of Philadelphia.

An alert for the girl was issued across the East, and police in Pennsylvania and Indiana investigated reported sightings of the pair as they made their way west in a red Volkswagen Jetta. They were stopped in Belleville, about 20 miles west of Indianapolis.

State police spokesman 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten said authorities received a report Monday morning of a vehicle matching that description at a truck stop near Fort Wayne. Troopers went to the area, but the car was gone.

Information about the car was broadcast to police statewide, Bursten said, and troopers spotted it around midday in Belleville.

Ludwig led them on a five-mile chase at speeds of 90 to 95 mph.

Trooper David Cox said Ludwig was "very reckless, very dangerous at that point," meeting vehicles head-on and running them into a ditch before he hit the tree.

After officers pulled Ludwig from the car, Kara got out and was frantic, screaming and crying, Cox said.

No weapons were found in the car. Police did not know why the pair were in Indiana.

Pennsylvania authorities were traveling to Indiana. Prosecutors expected to hold an extradition hearing for Ludwig on Tuesday or Wednesday, unless he waives those proceedings.

Anyway...

I sympathize to people who homeschool their kids and Christians.

It is very very very very difficult to be a Christian.

Especially in this country.

Have you guys seen the movie, "The Village"?

We can't protect kids from outside world.

The Devil will follow you no matter where you go.

Just have to deal with it... :gossip:

I don't think homeschooling had anything to do with this. Its silly to blame homeschooling in this case.

Why? B/c we live in a democracy and not a theorcacy?
That is the BIGGEST load of crap I've EVER read.......Our country is MAJORITY Christian....it's not like Christians are some small wittle cult minority. MOST people in this country are Christians!

but why do Atheists picking on us, saying we are evil and a hypocrite?

They said I can't cuss, I can't steal, I can't lie, and why do I do
such and such this and that, when I ain't suppose to.

But... yeah we are all sinners, and we can't be 100% sinless people.
Geez...

It seems that Atheists expect Christians to be 100% sinless.

Actually, Catholic is majority in our country. Born in Christian is minority, but it is very close to majority. Around the world, Muslim is majority.

It is a common for Christian teachers in homeschooling. That's interesting. Unfortunately, they should not bring up religious because it is more important for students to study in education that should not be interfere with religious because of race. It is a long controversal issue. I believe that homeschool is a good idea.
