Hey.

Im Liz, and hearing. But im learning ASL. I was just wondering if i were to go to a deaf meeting (like a deaf dinner or somthing) would you be upset? B/c recently i went to one as an extra credit assignmet for my class. I promise i was not making fun of the people there but i think they thought we were. and i really hope they didnt think we were being rude. I was wondering if you think it would be rude if a hearing person (me) went to your deaf meetings?

No not at all, I don't think it's rude to attend a deaf meeting...I would have welcome you with an open arm if I was at a meeting...

No not at all that deaf think it is rude no :) .. you just learn sign lanaguage ASL they will understand that you are just learning :).

Last year one deaf lady who are teacher that she taught her students and came to halloween deaf party they are just learning ASL and one girl came to me and signs to me it is not bad it is good to learn :) so right now I am sure she is really good at signs by now :)

NO, not all deafies have a complex like that. if that is the case I'm sorry
 
Hello and welcome to Alldeaf! It's nice to see when others are learning ASL or making efforts to connect to other Deaf/HoH individuals. I don't consider it rude whatsoever, it's like, I hope it isn't rude that I can participate in a hearing function and if they are able to compensate for my inability to hear well in a large gathering...in other words, it goes both ways. ;) Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy your stay here in AD!

I'm hearing also, I was very welcomed into the deaf community. Never been to a deaf meeting though. But really it just takes some time & patients with certain people. Don't take it to hard:)
