Usually am a secluded and lurking person when it comes to forums.. but decided I'd give it a shot anyway, after all, I need to face my realities (though still quite not there, because I'm under another alias).

I'm 23, Asian (mandarin Chinese and part korean heritage) from socal, born in states and lived here all my life. I've greatly enjoyed my travels to asian countries in my lifespan, I speak english and mandarin fluently, took some introductory and a little intermediate Japanese courses, know a bit of korean (which I regret that I dropped out of when I was a punk child who didn't care about it) and spanish. All my life I've felt somewhat secluded and tried to fit in with my friends, usually trying as much as the battle would take at my own costs.

I graduated from UC Irvine, and now currently work at an aerospace company as an nondestructive ultrasonic testing engineer.

Hobbies of mine are automobiles, jogging, working out, snowboarding/skiing, martial arts, videogames (started with the NES in the 80's), pets (nice ones), and lots of miscellaneous things.

Here's the plot peak - when I was a child, around two or three or so, my father's story starts out that he found out that whenever he would give me a phone, I'd always put it on my right ear. Once, he put it on my left and I instantly put it over to my right. That was when it was the biggest indication of it all. His premonitions came true. Although none of my relatives or bloodline are deaf/hard of hearing, we don't think it's genetics, though there's always possibly chance. It's theorized that a crazy-high fever/flu that took over me those years, along with non FDA-approved medicine with side effects led to my ears with sensineural hard of hearing loss. My left can only receive ~10% sound and not comprehend it (like garbled speech). The right is the good, started out with atleast an 80% receiving rate, but has gradually declined over the years where I'd now say it is a 25% rate.

anyhow, enough of me and glad to have met you all.

PS - i found this forum because I was jogging after work today and i dropped my HA on the street and it stopped functioning :(. Atleast googling led me to find this.

naisho,

Welcome to AD!

When I was ambulatory, if I were to jog or do anything to work up a sweat, I always took my hearing aids out so the sweat would not short out the circuitry. LOL

Enjoy you stay here and post away.

:welcome: to AD!

Bummer about your HA. 6 years ago, when my daughter was 3 years old, she put my HA in the washing machine. When I found it there in pieces I asked her why did she do that. She said "Mommy..you said your HA is dirty so it needed to be cleaned."

Went without a HA for 5 years due to not having any $$ to buy one. Finally got one last year thanks to my job!! Geez. I hope my 1 year old son doesnt do the same too so I put it away in a tight box!

Your job sounds interesting. What exactly do u do at your job?

Hi, thanks all for the kind welcomes.

I work at an aerospace company that manufactures and forges parts for planes, army, medical & surgical supplies etc. Basically my department is responsible for overlooking the quality of the finished product before they get shipped out, by using ultrasound testing, which is placing the item in water, and using a machine and computers to send sonic waves to test if there are any faults inside and out of the item, as well as their chemical compounds.

If they are OKed by our department, it gets shipped out to the bigger companies and they put it to use.
