Hi everyone. My name is Jennifer and I have been diagnosed with a moderate hearing loss since I was 5. I had meningitis at age 2, but found out recently that I have a birth brother who is also HOH. I guess my loss could come from either or both sources. I work full-time as a reading tutor and go to school full-time. I am married and my husband proudly serves in the Army and we have a 10 year old daughter.

I just recently found out that our insurance through the military will cover new hearing aids for me. I am ecstatic and saw the audiologist today to get the paperwork in to get them ordered! The ones I wear now are 16 years old. No joke I got them when I was 17.

I am glad I found this board!

Welcome.....we have a ton of hh members here!!!!! A word of advice.......try getting the BTE aids rather then the dinky aids.....I know they push the dinky aids, but the majority of people can benifit much more from BTEs then from the baby aids.....I used to wear ITE aids, and totally thought I could hear with them.....then an audi at MEEI put a BTE on me......haven't looked back since then!

Thank you for the advice. The audiologist said the only ones that will work are BTE. She is also getting it set up to get me FM receivers. That is new to me so I am searching the threads on that one! I was hoping for ITE, but I kinda figured it might not happen. In the end the quality of what I hear is what matters most. I had no idea the cool colors they have now!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
