Hello all. I'm very excited to have found this forum. It looks like it is fairly active and that is a big plus!
So, a little about why I'm here:
As you can see from the title of this thread, my name is Amy. I am currently taking my first year of ASL classes at Kent State. ASL is something that I have always wanted to learn since I was a little girl and just now have been afforded the opportunity to do so. I also want to learn ASL because my husband is hard of hearing (wears an in-the-ear hearing aid). While he can still hear it is hard to communicate in some public places and other times when he has not put his hearing aid in. I am slowly teaching him what I learn in class and on my own so we can learn together and use ASL when we need to - to communicate with each other.
Since I am an eager learner I am REALLY enjoying my ASL class and I am trying to soak up everything I can. I'm hoping to be able to learn even more from this forum. I am very curious about deaf culture and will probably have a lot of questions. I hope to one day be an interpreter in some capacity.
And now a little about me personally:
I'm 25 years old and have been married for 3 and a half years now. I love animals and my husband and I volunteer for a local rescue (one of our volunteers is deaf and I look forward to using ASL with her when I feel more comfortable!). We have a lot of animals at our house 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 parrots. All of our pets are at least second hand pets who were unwanted. I enjoy traveling, hiking/camping and reading (mostly non-fiction). I'm also a vegan and I love to cook and try new things.
I think that is about all for now. If you have made it through my long introduction, congratulations!
