Hi I'm hearing, have always loved the beauty of sign language and finally completed a beginners course in ISL last year- having to wait till Sept to do the next level, they don't make it easy here! I'd be very interested in learning ASL if I ever get back to the US- it seems COMPLETELY different to the ISL!
I don't think most people have any idea as to the complexities of sign languages and the fact that they are complete languages in their own right
I love this site, alot of interesting people...!

Welcome to alldeaf. Will you teach us a few of your signs? My curiosity's been piqued, I've never seen ISL. :)

Hmm I don't know alot of signs yet (beginner!) but I like the sign for sorry - circle palm clockwise at the heart..nice!

Hi junejewels, welcome to alldeaf. from Australia.

Do you use one hand or two hand to fingerspell alphabets? I thought American Sign Language and Irish Sign Language have similar fingerspell for alphabets. I am curious.

Yeah its one hand - as far i know the alphabet is almost identical, only a couple letters different, F and K and and Q I think...but Northern Ireland since its UK would use the BSL which is two hand!

Welcome! I was in England last semester for study abroad at a different university and I learned how to sign in BSL. I met three deaf irish girls in London. We hit off really well. I know that there are 7 letters in ASL and ISL that are different like H, and few othersl. It seems like I get along with irish girls better than English girls!

Welcome aboard to AD :)

I went to Ireland two years ago, and wicklow is included on my trip there!

In Eire, I watched TV with a small box with Irish sign language Interpreter tag together, I am unable to follow it since its a vast different from British sign language/Auslan, but I met two deaf Irish couples here, I can understand them better because we talk in oral fully and less sign language!!

Haven't been to the Deaf schools, but the Centre for Deaf studies used to be based in town, not too far away from Guiness! It has moved out a bit but no place is ever very far from a pub in this country!
not fond of the guinness :ugh:
prefer a nice bottle of corona
