Hi :)
I'm 21, a college student, and severely HoH since birth. I wear HAs, although they drive me a bit nuts at times. In all my education I have been around hearing people and was the only deaf person in the school. So this is a bit intimidating...:aw: But I wanted to say hello as the posts I've read here seem friendly. Thanks!

Wwelcome to All Deaf - I hope you enjoy your stay here, and the most good thing, we don't bite! ;)

Hi, Kaityn!
Jump in...........we have TONS of severely hoh and main/maxstreamed (word I use to descibe the dhh kids who grew up with little to no exposure to the Deaf community) here!

Thanks so much for the warm welcomes! :ty:

Deafdyke: A quick question: What does "maxstream" mean and how is it different than mainstreaming? Once again, :ty:

:welcome: to AD!

I was maxstreamed...it means a deaf person goes to classes with only hearing peers all day.

Mainstreaming is when there is a self-contained deaf program at a public school and depending on each students' level in each classes, they are mainstreamed with their hearing peers in some classes and spend the rest of the classes in the deaf program.

Hope that makes sense!

Hi, Shel, and :ty:.

I guess I was maxstreamed and didn't know it! :laugh2:
