I became interested in learning ASL after seeing it done at my church. Following my interest, I've begun looking at signing DVD's and bought two books on technique. As with many of my interests, I don't know if this will lead to a desire to become an interpreter, but I'd be happy to hear suggestions on how I might do this if I choose; how do I get training, certification, etc.?

I'm also reading "Deaf Culture, Our Way," which is eye-opening.

I'm also interested in knowing about discrimination the deaf-world has had to contend with over the years, and something about their history.

Hoping to learn more while I'm freezing in New England,
Tim

Hello Tim!

There are members around here who are sign language interpreters, and they might be able to help you with your questions.

You can read more about the "deaf world" in the Our World, Our Culture forum.

See ya around!
