My son buys stuff from the game shop and had experience no conflicts but I don't know about the game boxes such as x-box 360 because I never really brought that from a game shop, maybe steel-x can help you with that. ;)

If i were you, I wouldnt buy a preowned console and if you want to have the whole Xbox360 experience, I recommend you to get the premium (special edition) Xbox360 and if you wanna explore Xbox live, get the Xbox live gold membership card along with Xbox live webcam and USB keyboard and pick up a few good games for Xbox360 such as Dead Rising, Prey, and Dead or Alive 4.

Now, since the holiday season is around the corner and the Xbox360 is around $400, are you extremely sure you want to buy that for your boyfriend since it's still pricey? If you want to buy a new one at a better price, I suggest you to wait a year later for the price to drop to about $350 or so.
Of course this isnt my business but just giving you a little recommendation is all...it's all up to you now and wish ya the best of luck to bring happiness for your boyfriend.

Go for it, if you bought it from game store, i would be envy of you.. hehehe.. anyway is that x-360 used or new? If you gonna plan to buy it, my advice you go in and ask clerk about replacment plan, etc.. don't hurt to ask them before buy it without regerts... ;)

If it is new completed x-360...... GO FOR IT! GOOD LUCK!

dude, if you buy an xbox360 for 175 bucks, obviously it is preowned.

there are two console versions of the Xbox360...core system and premium system either is your choice. I wouldnt buy the used system and I never will cause i dont trust used systems.

So if you buy one that is used, well I wouldnt be suprised of how ruined the preowned console would be.

So...really, for a hardcore gamer like me I rather go for the console that is NEVER used, but for used games...thats different.

I buy some used games since they are only discs. But the console have alot of hardware inside so...if used, the hardware proably isnt that good and could be outdated or something.

So, like I said, its up to you and good luck.

I would go for the used console if the new one is just too pricey. I would also ensure I was covered by the game store in case the console did not work in a few months. Gamestop/EB Games offer a used console warranty thing, I think, for an amount of $.
Like Steel, I reccomend the Premimum 360 bundle with the wireless controllers and HDD.

You're correct, because I've seen game boxes and even games that sells a whole lot cheaper that were pre-owned (used).
