:wave:all
so tomorrow I go for inguinal hernia repair. After two years of waiting<everyone has told me it's elective surgery> and considering and researching and trying to come with ways to pay for it, I decided to go ahead.

The weakness that led to the current hernia bulge is congenital - one of several things I have due to prematurity.

I saw 3 different hernia specialists during this time frame, partly to learn all I could, as well as get a second opinion and also find someone who I felt most comfortable with. I've ended up with a female surgeon who can do it without the mesh. This surgeon has worked with the female uro-gynocologist I saw because of a bladder issue. I have a lot of allergy/sensitivity issues and also in the last year possibly bladder inflammation problems<that have been much more acute and difficult than the hernia> so in the end we've decided to go without the mesh...which also has a history in problems when used with patients who are undergoing bladder surgery <another use for mesh, I guess>. No, I'm not having bladder surgery but the mesh could impact my bladder so another reason to try without.

Last time I had surgery was several years agowhen I broke both bones in my wrist falling on ice by my parent's house.

So I'm off work for a week at least and hub is either taking medical leave or working from home.

I'm nervous but at this point I want it to be done with, really. I used to enjoy working out and doing Zumba, trying rock climbing etc, but with the hernia it was somewhat uncomfortable sometimes and also I didn't want to risk an emergency.

By this time tomorrow I will be home, hopefully!

I'll probably be home in afternoon.

Best of luck Dogmom....hope you recover quickly.

I will be thinking of you and hope you'll have a speedy recovery. That was very wise to go 3 doctors and get second opinion . So you go home the same day as your surgery ?

Yikes, surgery is never fun, but I've known a few people who've gone through hernia surgery and it doesn't seem to be too bad (probably depends on the type of hernia though I'd think).

Just remember to take it easy afterward and use the added sympathy to milk extra good behavior from your friends and family ;)

Hope everything goes smoothly and you recover quickly! :)

Best wishes for successful surgery and quick healing.

I hope your surgery goes smoothly with no complications, and that your recovery will be speedy.

TCS had double-hernia surgery years ago, and he went home the same day, so I hope that your stay in the hospital will be short, too.

Just follow your doctor's orders for recovery--don't overdo anything, be patient. :)

Good luck and best wishes! I hope your recovery goes smoothly! Will keep you in my prayers.

good luck and good thing u take care of it right away or it can get worse.. I was gonna explain more but I will explain later I just knew i will scare you away.. :)

:ty: / thanks everyone! :D

whatdidyousay! - thanks for kind comment- -yes, it's a day surgery which doc. estimates will take an hour or so.
Since it was considered elective, decided to be very careful about my decision. I also looked for doc. reviews online and went to a public "all about hernia" presentation at one of the facilities I was considering to use. That way I could hear other people's questions and experiences.

This surgeon seems very relaxed and confident about it amd has done tons of hernia procedures with and without the mesh.

Yesterday I spent mostly preparing and getting some extra ready for the dogs so they have stuff to do, since hub will be mostly handling them at least for the initial couple of days here.

See you guys after!

My dad had surgery for that last year.... my best luck for the surgery and speedy recovery. :)

good luck! I once had a hernia but mine went away through all the intense physical therapy xD

My husband had hernia surgery couple years before he passed away. His button on his stomach just broke loose and spill the water all over the place especially in my office at home. He (of course I went with him) went to the mainland in Sudbury, Ontario for hernia surgery. This was his first time to have hernia surgery. You were right that it is a one day surgery with recovering for a few hours or so depending how he felt better going home.

:ty:Calvin, Bebonang, Safarigirl and caz!
We got back from the hospital around 5pm. Been a difficult couple of days and yesterday I felt really crappy and my throat was irritated from the intubation <which they didn't tell us they were going to do>.

This morning I feel better. we have a re-check appt. on Thursday
