Liza>> That is what I think. I need to spend more time at Gally to find "my people"... because sofar I only hung out with undergrad students at BensonHall/Peet Hall. They sleep in at 4am and wake up at 2pm and eat one meal for the whole day. *Totally* unstable for me to handle. They are my age-- (imagine that!) but we are at a different stage in our lives so I don't mind hanging out wtih them but still! I guess I still have to hunt for my clones.
AND YES, that guy just walked up to me and asked me for my name, then out of the BLUE he said: "Are you hearing or deaf?" I could imagine myself jump out of my seat and claw his face out but instead I was like "why does it matter? What prompts you to ask that?" "Because you sort of behaved like a hearing person"... after that, I just snapped (but I didn't BITE his head off) and gave him my lecture about people judging. That such thing just BUGS me. How could one judge a person's appearance just to decide whether s/he is Deaf or not? WHAT DOES A DEAF PERSON LOOK LIKE?! It is so stereotypical for them to assume a person who looks/behaves "too normal" must be a hearie when in actual, that "normal" person is Deaf!
(screaming!)
dkf>> I took 5A metrobus which is on the curb 2E if you go to the ground transportation at Dulles Airport. It will takes you to L'Enfante Station, go up the staircase and go into the "shops" and take a sharp left and you will see an escalator(SP?) that goes down to the station. Take the green line for Chinatown then once you arrive the Chinatown station, take the red line for NY/Florida Ave. Union Station, for me, is hard to find the Gallaudet's shuttle stop (but I found out where it located at later but I still cannot figure out HOW to get to that stop from US anyway). Flordia Ave Station-- you just go down and wait outside on M Street. It probably took me an hour and 15 minutes or so... I cannot recollect how long exactly but it wasn't not FAR like NYC's JFK airport to Manhattan.
Heath>> I am not sure if RIT does have a Ph.d program for Linguistics... that is the goal for us. Galladuet just has this Ph.d prgoram added three or two years ago so this is very new. (THey has the MA program for many years but Ph.D is a big deal now at the Linguistics program).
