Hello!!!
I am a 3rd year ASL student and I have a final due soon, for my final I must ask people a question and write about it, my question is: what should you do if you see a non-signer using sign like gestures to pretend they are signing? Why? I also need to know full names, age and place where you went to High School.
It would be AMAZING!!!! if you could help me out.
Thank you so much in advance.
Michelle

What kind of final is this? If you are an ASL student, shouldnt you be tested on your sign skill, expressinve and receptive?

Sounds like an odd final

If I saw such a person your'e describing, I'd quickly get out the strait jacket I keep for times such as these. Lol, J/K

The only time I have witnessed this is when a hearing person thought they could get out of a traffic ticket by pretending to be deaf.

When the officer (an ASL signer) began signing they fessed up. They definately got the ticket and a warning about obstructing.

That is a thoroughly bizarre question. I've never encountered this. The only thing I can think of that's close is when someone goes "Oh you know sign language? Okay, what am I saying?" and then waves their hands around like an idiot. The polite response is "You're saying you don't know sign language" but I also know quite a few less polite responses.

I also need to know full names, age and place where you went to High School.

Why is everyone asking for this these days? There is almost no possibility you're going to get people posting this information about themselves on an Internet forum (and even if they do, they shouldn't).

well me319
you need to respect people's provacy if they don't tell who they are
they are very protective of themselves thank you

Very unusual "final" question. Is this for third year college ASL?

I've done surveys for ITP classes before but they never required the names of the participants. Those kind of personal questions almost seem like phishing. :hmm:
