Hey guys-

I'm Marissa and am new to this forum.

Who I Am: An employee at a marketing agency that represents an online job portal and social networking community aiming to advance the careers of people with disabilities.

Our goal: Is to create awareness and motivate people with disabilities to do more then they thought they could.

We are looking to put together a video campaign that supports people with disabilities. If you or someone you know would like to share a “YES, I CAN” moment in which you reached a personal goal that you never thought was possible we would love to hear about it!

Participants: please submit a short video (1-3min) about your "YES, I CAN" moment. Please be sure to include your name and phone number.

If your video is selected we will contact you.

PM me with any questions :hmm: you may have. If you want to submit sent to ShiningStars1994@gmail.com

Our deadline is March 1st, 2009.

Thanks for your help!

~Marissa~

Just to let you know people who are Deaf are not disabled and a fair amount would be insulted to be called that.

Good boy, Ty!

Plus you have to have 50 posts before anyone could PM you.

Other problems with this too, but more people may want to point them out.

I don't like to be selfish.:P

I hesitated to say anything as I am not Deaf and people who Deaf can and will speak for themselves - but what Celticty said was what I was thinking after I read the post.

Meant kindly please......another thing I thought was - what about a Yes I Can moment regardless of whatever - as a person with LD, while I have LD, for personally, it does not define me as a person - if I was to do something "amazing" or considered more significant to public because I happen to have LD, it wouldn't be:"LD person conquers..." or "person with LD does.....whatever....wow!", it would just be me living as someone who has many aspects to self. And why should I need or want another who does not know me to hold me up as an example? I think people who happen to have disabilities and who are Deaf have many ways to support themselves.

OH please notice -if that last sentence reads as people who are Deaf have disabilities, that's NOT - NOT - how its meant to read - I realize the "and" in there could be misleading- hope no one took it like that!! "Deaf" and "disabilities" SEPARATE

I understood what you meant dogmom. I saw the space inbetween them. your in the clear.

Some hearing people think that DEAFness is a disability only because they think what they have to say is important.

Would OP's post qualify as :spam: ?

possibly... since the OP joined up yesterday and posted that one post and nothing since?:hmm:

EDIT: just noticed the OP has a blog entry that says the same thing as their post here too.

Quite frankly, it is not the person with the disability that needs to be educated about what they can do. Most are already aware of the fact that they are quite capable of being contributing members of this society.

It is those without disability that need to be educated. That is the segment of society that creates the social barriers that prevent those with disabilities from fulfilling their true potential

OP needs to change her targeted audience.

Botti, I read somewhere in here to say that one of the moderators said they have to have 100 posts, not 50 posts. I didn't know that. Oh, well...

If memory serves, it used to be 100 posts but has been reduced to 50.

Really? You can check out the other thread: How to use the Alldeaf forum and read Vampyrox's post to say that we have to have 100 posts, not 50 posts. I am really so confused by this because the moderators said two different story in two months apart. :dunno:

Ask the MODs and see what is correct answer is. I think they changed it and didn't update the info.. Like I said, I was going by memory and it could be wrong.

its 50. i paid attention to that when i first signed up. it allowed me to send/receive pm's after 50 posts.
