Hi Everyone.. I've lurked here for awhile but have be too afraid to post! I'm slowly losing my hearing and currently have hearing aids (which I don't use).

My grown kids have taken to making up their own signs to communicate with me (ie: lifting their fingers to their lips and simulating drinking to ask me if I want more coffee) because I've been in 'denial' (their words) about how bad my hearing has become.

I know it's true..but I feel so lost and confused...and I'm really not sure what to do now.

Thank you for reading this and sorry if I've offended anyone.

Hello and :welcome: to AD! :)

I am sorry to hear of your hearing loss but you are not alone ... there are some topics/postings here that may help you in any way. Hope this site will be beneficial for you and if you post a topic of your dilemma, I'm sure the AD'ers will guide you. :)

Nothing offensive about being lost and confused. For lots of deafies, AllDeaf is the place to start finding yourself and understanding more about your options.

Learn fingerspelling and sign language. Why reinvent the wheel when the language you need is waiting for you?

I understand not using hearing aids, as they can be difficult. I hope you're seeing a real audiologist and not just a hearing aid seller. There are lots and lots of options in aids, and maybe cochlear implants are the best future for you.

Welcome . . . and explore!
