Hello From Scotland

Hi there,
I'm 27 yrs old and I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland was born deaf and I wear hearing aids in boths ears. I communicate orally and have no knowledge of any form of sign language since my parents made the choice to have me educated in mainstream schools. I'm tremendously excited to meet you guys as I don't really have that much contact with other deaf people at all. There are reasons why I don't have much contact with other deaf people and it would take way too long to get them all up here.

My goal in life is to be a writer of some sort, whether it be by writing novels, short stories, movie & tv scripts. I'm a member of a writers web community called Writersdock, so you'll find me there if I'm not here.

I look forward to chatting to you guys and having few laughs! :cheers:

wow congratulation for u!right did u go to university by your study abt writer...?I feel writing any novels,etc is hard for me ofc it maybe seem hard at first time, but if more execrise,will be following a writer or other things.
in addition,I have searched that word which is writer's dock that is so cool and nice :) I just wanna sure is it Writers' Dock thx for sharing us.

Hey, I've never studied writing at uni either, just an unpublished amateur at the moment. Most of my stuff is rubbish anyway but with help from the guys on the other website I'm slowly starting to improve.

The closest I've been to Uni is to an HNC in Structural & Civil Engineering, yep it is as boring as it sounds!

You've got the right website site there, was just a little unsure if it would be allowed to post a link to it, seeing as i've only just joined here. They know I'm deaf and I've had no trouble at all from anyone on that site. It's one of the friendliest and most open minded sites I've been on.

Welcome to AD! :) What kind of writing do you enjoy? I also love to write. Short stories, nonfiction, poetry -- you name it. Right now I'm in the process of writing my autobiography (which describes my experiences with deafblindness) for future publication. Several people have encouraged me to do this, so I thought, "Why not?" :) It has been very therapeutic for me in alot of ways. In regards to writing, I was fortunate enough to have 3 wonderful English teachers (one of them a published writer) who nutured my love for writing. Can you tell me a little more about Writersdock? I'd like to check it out sometime! :)

I write mostly science fiction and fantasy 'cause that what i like to read. Was inspired to write after reading Frank Herbert's "Dune" it was just so amazing the different worlds he created and i just thought, i wanna do that as well, so i did! Writersdock is a UK based website that has at the moment just over 3500 members, it's free to join and you can post every kind of writing you can think of on the website for reviews. They have sections for poetry, screenwriting, novels, short stories, song writing etc there are even several sub groups which have their own little specialist themes. If you're serious about writing but can't afford the riduculous prices some professionals charge, you can get your stuff looked at by fellow writers and get helped along the way with your spelling, punctuation and grammar.

In short, if you are interested in writing and want an impartial view on your work, this website is for you. And now i must stop because i sound like one of bad commercials you see for fitness equipment!

Writing is good for the soul, my brothers! I love it and i can't stop, I always have a project bubbling away. Right now I'm working on a collaborative fantasy project with a few other writers, we may self publish an anthology of our stories when we finish.

How far are you with your autobiography? Have you hit the stage in your writing where you just don't care what you're writing even if its total crap?

Ah, Dune. Great books. Loved them.... wise quotes in there..

I might post something here, when I've written something decent, which could be a long long time. How long does an ice age last? Because it'll be as long as that! hehe

I talk a good game, but when it comes right down to it, my writing dosn't really compare with anything out there already, so i only write for myself. you never know right? Gotta keep that hope alive!

Growing up, I was always writing stories but I lost interest in it. In the past couple of years, I have been thinking a lot about writing and how I would love to go back to writing someday but I dont know where or how to start. Maybe that website u mention could be a good start. :)
 
I was the same, in high school I used to love writing stories as it was pretty much my only escape from the bullying. It wasn't until about two years ago I was dreaming of being a writer and i spoke to my brother about it and you know what he said "What are you waiting for? Get Writing!" If you follow a dream it doesn't matter if you don't get it, at least you'll have the satisfaction that you tried your best to achieve it.

The secret to it is very simple, read all you can and write all you can. It doesn't matter if its good or not, if you're happy with it, who cares what anyone else thinks.

You want to write? What are you waiting for? Get writing!

I read everyday..I am addicted to it. Ha! Ok I guess I can start with using MS word-perfect and save them on CDs. See what happens.
