Hello! (from Portland, OR)

Hi all,

My name is Kat. I'm not hearing impaired, but I'm the founder and executive director of a non-profit horseback riding program about 45 minutes outside of Portland, Oregon The Horse Sense Riding School (horsesenseridingschool.org). We have a discounted riding program for disabled riders and I have 2 ASL students from the University of Oregon that are going to help interpret so that we can offer some special sessions for deaf riders. I'm having a hard time connecting with agencies in Portland that serve the deaf and most of the links that I come across don't work anymore.

I'd like to invite some local deaf riders to participate in our sessions, so I'm hoping some of you might have some good local resources that I can connect to.

I think she was looking for resouces to have more deaf and hard of hearing riders. She has a problem getting the connections for the resources which has nothing to do with ASL lessons. That is different.

As for me knowing if there were resources, I could hope there might be a Oregon Hearing Society or probably Vocational Rehabilitation.

if you are working with d/Deaf people <not "the deaf">, understand that "hearing impaired" is mostly viewed negatively.
