I am a Communication Support Worker/Interpreter for Deaf kids aged 16-18 at a college in Manchester, England.
I am interested in learning ASL and hopefully finding work in a similar job in the United States. I have friends in Chicago, and would like to move there next summer (june/july 2012).
Before I arrive I intend to learn as much ASL online or through DVD's as there are no ASL classes here in the UK. I think it would be a good idea, and a great experience for me to volunteer at a Deaf summer camp when i arrive in America. This way i can learn ASL and gain some experience about American Deaf culture, whilst having fun at the same time.
If anyone can help me with contacts for Deaf camps in the state of Illinois, or any other information they think may be useful, I'd greatly appreciate it!
