Hi everyone!
I am later deafened, (hearing loss started in 1986) runs in the family. I don't mind being called HoH or deaf because I am legally deaf. Either one is fine with me. I am not ashamed or embarrassed by either label. Like many deaf/Deaf, I have very bad Tinnitus...But now, for so many years, mostly I don't think about it much anymore. I think Tinnitus harder than deafness though. At least for me.
Depending on the situation, I use any or all of the following to communicate. Bilateral BTE Hearings Aids with ALD booted into my hearind aids as well, speech and ASL. Sometimes, I use nothing at all just because it feels so nice.
No sweaty ears!
I am also legally blind. But I do not need "Hands On" signing! Just come close and sign slower. I have a Guide Dog so cars don't squish me!
Yes, I am pro ASL and pro d/Deaf culture and have my own thoughts about many different things. But I don't believe in judging other peoples choices. I just believe in doing the best I can for myself and for people around me.
I am very well adjusted to being later deafened and legally blind and if the rest of my useable hearing (Even if it is artificial.) goes away tomorrow...I will be just fine. The only thing I wish, is that I could jump on a great big motorcycle and ride off into the sunset like when I was young.
Oh yeah...I am female! Hope to meet some nice ppl here! --- NiCarthaigh
