 Hello, my name is Eric. I live in San Antonio, TX. I'm a hearing person, but I've always found ASL to be very fascinating and would love to learn. I have not yet had the good fortune of making any deaf friends, but that is also why I came to this web site. I have always been interested in how people communicate. When I was 20 years old I joined the Navy to become a linguist. That was 4 years ago and since then I've learned how to speak spanish and have been working as a spanish linguist. I first learned of ASL when I was about 13. There was an interpreter who was signing what the preacher was saying to the deaf and hearing impaired congregation. I had my mom buy me an ASL book the very next day. I realized very quickly that I'm not very good at teaching myself and that the illustrations weren't very clear to me. I sadly became very frustrated and put the book away in the closet. 11 years later I have a renewed interested and after learning spanish I know that I have the patience to learn ASL. I also look foward to making several new friends. : )
