i am the mom of alea jayn she is 8 yrs old and hearing impaired the day after she was born the dr casually came in and said by the way your daughter failed her newborn hearing test, being 17 and uneducated about deaf and hard of hearing people i was in shock. one ent told me she could hear the other she couldnt she would wake up during the hearing test but no brainwaves would register so finaly by the time she was 2 1/2 i learned exactly what kind of hearing loss she had and what she could and couldnt hear. she started school at 3 and is now in 2nd grade but reading and math on a 1st grade level i am excited to find this forum to learn more about the life style of deaf and hoh people, to understand and know what to exspect for her down the line
