I am not advocate the cochlear implant for the Deaf children but I thought, you may like to know about this event in Sturbridge, MA. ~ Sabrina

You are cordially invited to attend the fourth biannual Northeast
Cochlear Implant Convention, which will be held at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Convention Center in Sturbridge, MA Fri-Sun, July 11-13, 2003. The Keynote Speaker will be Heather Whitestone McCallum, Miss America 1995.

The theme of this convention, Raising the Bar, reflects the new higher standards for classroom acoustics, rising performance levels of cochlear implants and assistive listening devices, and greater expectations of communication access. Topics to be addressed include advances in implants and speech processors, bilateral implants, listening devices enabling improved hearing in classrooms and auditoriums, and knowledge of the rights of children and adults for communication access. In addition, Children’s Hospital Boston will sponsor a seminar, Classroom Acoustics: Breaking Sound Barriers, for educators and clinicians. Arthur Boothroyd, Ph.D. will speak on Classroom Modifications and Educational Amplification for Regular Education and Children with Hearing Loss.

Information about the convention can be found on the Minuteman Implant Club Web site, http://www.CIsupport.org

There will be seven concurrent tracks of presentations, four of primary interest to parents, audiologists and educators, and three of primary interest to deaf adults and professionals. CART will be provided for the latter three tracks and the Keynote. In addition, there will be a full-fledged Children's Program Saturday and Sunday so their parents can attend sessions. Space in the Children's Program is limited, so parents should register their children early.

The hotel is filling up so you should reserve asap if you plan to stay over. The hotel reservation phone is 800.582.3232. The room rate is $124 + tax.

Registration fees are low, only $40 total for Saturday and Sunday, and $95 for Friday.

You may write to me at orloff209@attbi.com if you have any questions.

Did you make your judgement on that based on facts?

Please keep your discussions at a different thread in the CI thread. :D
