As a hearing person I am jealous that the deaf can literally tune out noises.
If I were able to do that I would be :giggle: all the time when my mom complains or when there are too many people talking at once. If I had a husband that snored, and had a CI or Hearing Aid, I would just rip that thing off of my ear and head!

I used to be notirious for turning off my hearing aids on people as a kid.

Is this one of those posts where you didn't think it through, like your first one?

Weird post, weird thread. Am I in the dead zone yet?

everyone (hearing and asking me about my deafness) would say what the OP had said. I just smile and nod like its true... i actually dont really do that cause it shows how immature you are.

Two words: Ear Plugs

Sarah Siren: the premise of your supposition is inaccurate. Hard of Hearing/deaf/Deaf/DEAF persons reactions isn't exactly "voluntary". It applies across the board. One can't back to "regular hearing".

From my experience almost 50 years. I am bilateral DEAF-since Dec/06.

Sarah, You have touched nerve tad a bit, there are many deaf people, especially the late deafen, who wished they were hearing. They probably wish for an easier life (people being more deaf aware), easier job prospects (jobs that doesn't need telephone!!! majority of jobs require a person who can use the phone!!), easier communication with hearing peers, limited social life as deaf people avoid going out where there's poor lighting/aoustics, people get left behind unable to keep up with the converstation.

Sarah you definitely shouldn't be "jealous" of deaf people ..We joke around amongst ourselves how great it is to be able to turn sound off when we want and not being able to hear the annoying stuff but in reality and deep down a lot of people wish they could hear..some don't care but it wasn't the greatest idea to say you're "jealous" of us..cuz I'm sure some ppl on here are "jealous" of you and your hearing capabilities

As a consequence of deafness: one can "turn off unwanted hearing" however it also applies to wanted hearing! No choice except how one's deals with the condition-ASL or Cochlear Implants.
