Hello everyone!
I am a hearing teacher who spent the last five months of my life falling in love with 5 deaf and hard of hearing children. I was actually only a long-term substitute for the regular education teacher, but I took a sign language course to be able to communicate with my students, and loved every minute of it. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to them as they moved to second grade, but I am terrified that I will forget many of the new signs I have learned with them. I use aslpro.com to try and keep my abilities up to par, but the computer is a terrible replacement for a real conversation with another signer. I signed up here hoping to see if anyone knew of any deaf events or deaf days in the Pa and Md areas. I knew of a Renaissance Faire in Md that celebrated with a Deaf Day, but I don't know where to look to find information on these kinds of events. If anyone knows of any, I would be thrilled to hear about them. Please help me continue to better myself as a signer. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

South Central Pa VERY close to the Md Line

These 2 links might help you .... You might want to make the Deaf school your first stop, however for the Harrisburg area, I have no idea if there is a Deaf school I know there is one in Scranton but that is more up in the Northeastern mountains. For Harrisburg, you would have to stop at the Deaf social nightclub. I am sure they will be alittle nervous at first because this is not the normal way to meet Deaf people. People normally usually meet Deaf people at the school for the Deaf. That is the normal way.

2 Deaf schools and then the 3rd one is the Deaf social nightclub.

Philadelphia:

The 3rd one is the Deaf social nightclub in Harrisburg :

and :welcome: to AllDeaf too !!!!!

Thanks a lot. I will try to contact these places to see if they know of any events that are coming up. :)

Welcome to Alldeaf Iffer! I'm sure it was very disheartening to see the students you've worked with move on--and it's also very encouraging to see someone like yourself take the time to learn ASL in order to communicate....checking local Deaf Clubs is one way to go and also find out the various of events that are taking place by attending or contacting these clubs. Wishes you all the best to find what you're looking for! ;) Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy your stay here in AD as well!

Have a great day!
