Hearing Lost And Dementia

Throw in vision problems with the hearing loss and you probably have a lot of people out there that don't have dementia, but have been diagnosed as having it.

I this posted at my audi office on Friday , I guess he think hearing lost can cause dementia . I guess this would be an easy way for a doctor to diagnosed someone that getting forget and is hoh or deaf just say they have dementia. I get earaches and the ENT can't find anything wrong with my ears and say it my TMJ then bill my insurance for a full office visit

Why do you think it's wrong that the doctor charges for a full office visit? You were in the office, weren't you?

I can imagine hearing loss, more than vision problems, can cause dementia. Without being able to communicate <easily> with others, it can mess with your mind. It certainly can lead to depression.

As to TMJ, it can cause pain in other parts of the head. The pain is not restricted to the jaw.

My TMJ pain comes in many forms. It starts with soreness in my jaw, usually one side or the other, not both at the same time. As it worsens it feels like tooth pain. Terrible tooth pain that moves from tooth to tooth so you can’t tell which it is. When it’s really bad the entire side of my face is in pain. My teeth, my cheeks, my jaw, my ear. It can feel like an earache or a headache. It can feel like my teeth are going to fall out of my head. My neck hurts, my back hurts, my shoulders hurt. I think that I will die before the pain goes away.

A friend of mine who is a retired oral surgeon told me that he always tried to talk his patients out of having TMJ surgery because the all the studies he read showed most patients end up being worse off after the surgery. So If someone recommends TMJ surgery don't do it because you could end up with worse problems than an ear ache, sore jaw, etc .

Interesting on the TMJ... when my teeth hurt etc- especially the top ones, it's likely my sinuses acting up. Only found that out because once went to doc because of an odd pain/sensation in one tooth... he said there was nothing wrong with it...then showed me my full frontal x-ray- sinuses dipped low close to my gums/teeth (in spite of a small mouth...).

Ear/face pain... and eye pain seems to be more headache/migraine for me than TMJ.

Well I certainly hope he does. He has a job too and needs to be paid. You went there for services, services were rendered.. so of course a bill went out regardless of what he did or didn't find out. But.. be glad it wasn't an ear infection. I would be!

I believe I was headed towards having TMJ years ago when I was getting some headaches in the lower back of my head. After having to happen to read an article about TMJ, I went to my dentist and he said I was grinding my teeth, so I've been wearing a mouth guard at night ever since. Never had those headaches again, that I can recall...unless I went a few days w/o wearing the night guard.

I would never have surgery for my TMJ , I wear a mouth piece at night and ice my face a lot . Thank you for the warning .
