Hello,
I am a hearing Student at Humboldt State University in Northern California. I am writing a paper on the National Theater for the Deaf and would like some real input from the deaf community regarding the theaters relevance to your life, opinions on the organization or stories about experiences you have had with the Theater or any theater. Thank you for your time and openess.:fingersx:

There has been much written about the NTD, and its impact on deaf individuals, and the culture as a whole.

I love theater; I love performances by and of the deaf. It's one of my most favorite things to do - go to a play. The deaf theater is much better because I don't have to look at an interpreter standing on the side, which makes me miss some of the action on the stage. So if the performers are signing - I won't miss anything!

Like DeafBajajal, I enjoyed the theater for the deaf. I used to watch many of the shows when I was at NTID. Those were good times I had at the college. I am not crazy about having an interpreter on the side. I want to be able to watch the characters and understand them so that means they gotta sign. Now I am missing those shows. sniff!

I love DeafTheatre - we don't have much here that I know of though :(

Are you going to touch on DeafWest as well ??? just curious

Do you mean National Theater of the Deaf?

Sorry, I'm hearing so I can't give you input for your paper.

I haven't seen a live performance by NTD since 1970 but I loved watching them in their formative years. The performers were not only talented but also warm, friendly people.

Thank yo to all that responded.
Were you aware of the national endowment of the arts threatening to cut the budget of NTD in 2004-present and do you think that NTD still holds relevance to the tech savvy kids of the present?
