Do you work or are you trying to work or go to school? If so, have you tried your state's vocational rehab? Also, consider writing to the companies that make the hearing aids and explain your circumstances, they may offer the hearing aids at a much lower price.

My county offers a shit ton of programs, things like very low interest loans so you can pay for the hearing aids over time. So even if your aids cost a few grand, for instance, you may have to just pay a low price every month until they are paid off. If you need help searching, let me know and I'll see what programs I can find for you in your state.

Ok, I just had a peek at what's available based on your profile. I found two pages that both mention adaptive equipment. One will loan you up to four thousand dollars which is found here http://ocfs.ny.gov/main/cb/equiploanfund.asp I presume that the loans are very low interest and you can probably take a few years to pay at a small amount each month.

The other is the independent living services program, which also helps with adaptive equipment http://ocfs.ny.gov/main/cb/indep_living.asp

I would try the independent living services program first.

I'd be excited about the guide dog. One of my best friends is blind and she got her new Guide Dog within the last year (her old one had to retire) and there were a few deaf-blind in her class. Depending on which chapter you go through, she may even have used the exact same one!

Also, from now on keep several cases for your hearing aids to protect them. Like one in your purse, one at your bedside table, wherever you normally take off your hearing aids. They sell very hard cases for them, but you can also use things like washed and cleaned margarine tubs. I would not buy them from ebay. You will not know what you're getting, and if you get ripped off you're out all your money with no working hearing aid.

Another thought is check with your local universities and see if they have an audiology program. There's a school where my relative is a professor, and they offer free hearing tests and hearing aids to lower income people in the county that the school is located. You can message me privately and I'd be happy to look around for any university near you that provides that service. That's actually how I got new hearing aids in grad school. The hearing aids were the ones that suited me best, not the cheapest ones around.

I go to hknc let's see what happens with them ..thanks though.
