I haven't been active on this site lately. I moved from WA to NY. I'm now an overworked grad student with a final on Friday!

In my lab, I've become friends with a researcher who is in the US for a few more months before moving back to his native country (I'm omitting it for privacy reasons). He would like to bring hearing aids to his brother who is not an American citizen. He gave me an audiogram of his brother's hearing. It is 60 db from 0-2000 Hz, from there, it goes up to 10 dB.

I have an old pair of hearing aids that I am going to try to get re-programmed for him. I'd rattle off more details about the hearing aid, but I won't be home until Monday. My concern lies in the fact that there is no way to make him an earmold. He does not live near a city, nor does he have the resources to travel to see an audiologist. There is no way for other adjustments to be made. Actually, the hearing aids are about 18 years old, so they might not exactly be programmable....oh geez...we've come a long way with hearing aids.

What other options can I give him? Are Miracle-Ear hearing-aids legitimate? I am not sure how much money he can spend.

I don't want to leave him empty handed.

Thanks.
