I have got a hearing aid hearing tests on may 28th. I will finally find out how well or bad im doing with my HA, some days it seems alright and some days I can barely hear. I will hopefully be transferred to adults services so I finally wont have to go for annual testing for my HA, go when I need it. If after my hearing test I still find that I cannot hear as much as I used to i will be asking at the adults services if they could maybe change my HA because I already know that my HA is maxed out. Because a few years ago when I was given the aid I could barely hear at the normalish volume for that aid.
Uk people, is adult services any better or are they even worse?

I am afraid ever since i turned adult i have been treated like crap, Older deafen people were given the priorty, I often sat in waiting room for hours on open clinic days and i have had lost alot of pay due to this, I couldn't afford the time off, on occassion i have seen parents with lively school age kids waiting for ages and they looked pissed off as i am!

Since i was approved for CI i was treated with alot of respect at CI centre and they sort my HA out aswell as CI. I am going on the 27th for my 9 month review and to assess my unimplanted ear to see what sort of benifit my HA is giving me (i haven't worn HA in that ear for 15 years and have 120db loss). I had the HA since i was implanted.

The Hearing Assessment centre that I currently go to now, used to have a staff member who i used to see at school as she was my local area audiologist and she was also quite annoyed with my ci centre because they are supposed to test me and make sure my HA is fine. But they dont. I am glad im only at ci centre once a year. I dread going there.

I'm wondering Char.. u were unaided and now u wear HA ? do you get any benefit off it ? I was thinking I might go bimodal..I haven't aided that ear for sooooooo long!

Since day one of receiving my ci i have never been withou my HA. I am so used to do I actually wear my HA more than my ci ooops. it should be the other way round shouldnt it

Oh dear... looks like you are not happy with your CI centre.. I cannot think of anything to help you since you are young, living at home and possibly doesn't drive otherwise i would have advised you to transfer to another CI centre.

I hope once I get moved to the adult programme things will improve!

Umm... I can't really explain, I find it better with both on than one sided (CI ear) even i cannot hear much out of HA ear... The lows is better with both on. But my problem is i cannot tell if it's on or off!!

Lissa,

Whether a person wears their HA along with their CI from day one depends on the person. I've worn my HA since the day my CI was activated until I could no longer hear well enough to tell if it was on or off. I think you'll find some people who prefer to use their CI only because the HA interferes with their ability to hear with the CI while others prefer using CI/HA together.

I only wear my HA with my ci cos my ci sounds so quiet without my HA that i actually struggle to hear some sounds

I'm afraid I've had the same experience with adult services!

overthepond did they check how you was doing with your hearing aid??

I had to go to audiology at the hospital back in aug last year, my mum was taking A,7, for a hearing test so I had to watch M,5, outside in the waiting room. It took a while to wait for A's turn and it was completely full of old people and there wasnt anything for kids. Even I felt a bit intimidated and bit annoyed because it was full of old people and everytime a doctor called out somebody's name, everybody in the room was asking if you was that person but it was so full!

Not a very good service but better than nothing!!
