Have you ever been undercharged?

Today I had a very interesting thing happen to me. I went to a service station to get some petrol for my car, and as I was filling it up I noticed something very strange.

They made an error on the machine and set the price to $0.159 per gallon regular. When I was done filling my car up with about 8 gallons, the price came out to only $1.25. I was surprised. I thought I was on some kind of Jaime Kennedy Experiment or something, but I decided to go to the store and let the cashier know. She thanked me and told me not to worry about paying for the rest. NOW, THAT WAS THE CHEAPEST PETROL FILL-UP I EVER HAD!

Did you ever experience being undercharged to an extreme and did you do something about it?

Interesting.. Sometimes they have an error on the machine or maybe they are changing the gas prices and you drove up when they were supposed to change it. Who knows? But lucky you, to get cheap gas!

shhh i would of called all my friends and let them know about the cheap gas!! gas is almost 2 dollars here in cali

yes it has happened to me before...

at "S.A.V.E. Foods/gas" they have gas machine that you can put some $1, $5, $10, $20 bill in and fill the gas... Anyway, i put $5 in it.. and filled.. somehow the $5 bill come out of the machine... i was surprised.. and took the $5 bill out and keep it.. then took off :-X didn't let them know... however i keep doing it again and again for 2 weeks.. finally they progammed it to make it work... Dang! free gas holy cow!

I know.. i'm bad.. didn't inform them.. oh well..

@ Deaf258: Yeah, to come to think of it, I did see a man standing outside changing the prices on the price sign. Maybe I arrived at the right time, and got involved in this error. The cashier said she must have entered it by error and will change it. Hmmm! Maybe I will look for gas stations with men changing prices and park there and hope for cheap gas! he he he

@ Babyphat: most of my friends were working at the time anyway... and some friends live 40 miles away so I dont know if they would have drove 40 miles for such cheap gas.

C'mon, do anyone of you have stories of being undercharged? I remember when I was at Wawa once, and purchased a pint of Ben and Jerry Ice Cream. The cashier entered a price for it as $1.98 which I clearly knew was wrong, and I told the woman out of stupidity that it was the wrong price. The woman looked at me strange, but checked and changed it to the right price. Heh heh... I guess I am too honest both ways (underpricing and overpricing).

@ Deafscuba: wow free gas for 2 weeks! I bet that was great, but I would have felt guilty for not doing anything about it!

One of my friends got charged 1.64 for a hotel room for two nights. :-D

Yes It happened to me at Payless Shoes store.. I brought shoes for $24.99 and i gave her $40.00 and she gave me back $45.01 .. Then I got lost...Why she gave me soo much back so I said something to her that" I gave you $40.00 and she looked puzzled" then she said I know have a nice day.. I was like lost in space like she might didnt know how to count. So I just left didnt have time to help her with her math Figures.. Heh...

ohhh Kuifje!!!! CHEEP GAS!!!!!!! :thumb:

Deafscuba hahahah u were definately sneeky!!!!!! getting FREE gas for 2 weeks! dang that wouldve rocked!

Hmm.. I went to Old Navy and I found this RAD pants... it has two prices on it and I don't know which is the right price because neither was overlapping (you know when they would have a sale, they would tape the reduced price sticker over the orginial price) and one of the prices were 9.99 and another were 32.00... i was like "er, i hope that 9.99 sticker is for real" so I took it to the counter and the cashier spotted the two price tags and asked me which one, so I pointed to 9.99$ because I *refused* to pay 32 bucks... and it kept coming up as 32bucks on the machine when the cashier lasered the barcode. But he overrode the price and manually charged me for 9.99$... YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!

Although now that pant is too big for me. :'( I need to go back to Old Navy and get some more cheap jeans ;)

Damn, I would fill up my car, and look for some gas cans. LOL. But I would point out the mistake.

I didn't get to be overcharged or undercharged but sometimes cashiers would let me keep the change but that is it. However, I know sometimes cashiers at Wal-Mart would overcharge or undercharge customers by mistake. But I know my boss would find out about their mistake and would fill out reports on their mistakes. Wal-Mart doesnt tolerate cashiers to make big mistake (over or under $5.00). I think if the cashier makes big overcharge or undercharge more than 6 times then the cashier will be fired. at Wal-Mart

Cashier would not be terminated from walmart, but they will be terminated as a cashier -- they will transfer to other department if they are on UNION or something like that. They would give them displicine (cash control).

Went to the bank to get some cash $200 dollars. I was rush to get in the car to drive to second job. I was sitting at red light traffic. I count the cash. It was 400 dollars. I thought, I was senile in math. I count again, it is 400 dollars. I said oh dear the teller gave me over payment.

I had to driven back to the bank and approach to this teller lady. Look at that 200 dollars was over paying me. I have known this lady for ten years. I did not want to see her lose job for mis-count.

She thanked me for being honest to return 200 dollars back to the bank!

Once, I went to Blockbuster Video to rent a movie. It cost me $3.24 for one movie. I placed a $20 bill on the counter and the guy gave me $16.76 change. He placed the change on top of the $20 and I was too busy to notice it cuz I was talking to my brother and his friend. I took the money and put it in my wallet. I checked my wallet a week later and found that I had an extra $20. I wondered what it was until the next day when I figured out what had happened. Eek! Oh well, $20 extra for me! :)

Here in Rochester, RGE (Rochester General Electric?) sends electric bills every month. Their process is a bit tricky. What they usually do is send you the bill with the actual amount that you owe. The next month, they will send you a bill with an estimated amount that you owe based on last year's bill. After paying that bill, they will figure out the cost and fix the charge for next month based on the actual cost of the previous month. It's a bit annoying to get bills like that. My friend once got a bill for $150 because the previous residents used that much the year before. He ended up paying that much until they found out he actually used only $60. His next bill was "free" since it was fixed cuz of this error. Heh!
