I'm wondering what you think which is best for profound hearing loss and why? whats the pros and cons of what you vote?

A hearing aid is not directly comparable with an implant; they're targeted towards different populations. Even comparing, say, the Harony and Freedom implants is tricky because users have different preferences and priorities, and the implant manufacturers have different ways of doing things.

Yes agree absolutely.

Yeah, this poll can be misleading because in order to give opinion what you feel is best, you should have tried all, but its likely most have only tried one or another.

I agree . CIs and HAs are different ! so the poll is wrong

I am profoundly deaf in both ears and all super power hearing aids do is help me with environmental sounds. Does nothing at all for speech discrimination. I can't vote on this because I do not know what it is like to have a cochlear implant but power aides do nothing for me.

Hey what about the Med-El implant? In any case, hearing aids are not like CIs and I think my CI is a vast improvement on my hearing aids.

i don't think i should vote those...

the reason is because hearing aids and CI aren't the same like everyone stated,,
and the other reason is

the CI brand AB, Neculeus, Med-El can't be judge on best brands.. since everyone's different and their preference is different on what they want.
so with the CI brand.. i will say they all are the best.

I am not going to get into any brand wars. :)

Personally my hearing loss never really reached profound. But from personal experince using both HA's and now an implant, for a person who likes to hear and communicate through spoken language a CI blows the HA out of the water. (so to speak) Any brand will do I'm sure since you cannot trial a CI and the technology used by all three is very close.

You do have a point there, Jag. CIs brands can't be exchanged like hearing aids brands. My audi told me that I can not just get a Harmony brand along with a Med-El brand if I were to go bilateral.

Once I chose a CI model, I can't just get a new brand of CI like I can with hearing aids.

In any case, I think CIs are a vast improvment over hearing aids.

I think another factor to consider with CI brands is the expertise of your particular CI centre. Some are more experienced with some brands more than others and some will only do one or two brands. If you decided on an AB for example, then make sure you go to a centre that is familiar with then and has had prior experience in dealing with a range of post implant problems associated with that brand.

On the other hand if there is a particular doctor, audiologist and CI centre that you really like and it's close to home yada yada I would personally prefer to go with the brand that they work with for the same reasons as above.

I remember Boult saying once in some thread long ago that it would be a good thing to get your CI centre to become more familiar with another brand by using yourself, but to be honest I never like to be anyone's guinea pig. I'm waaay conservative!
