Thanks
I went away to Gatlinburg, TN for my Birthday. It's been a tradition to go since I turned 17. I'm now 34. For my hearing friends I joke and say I celebrated the 4th anniversary of my 30th Birthday but for you all I'll just say it as it is.
I had a great time. We (My parents, 1 aunt and 3 small cousins) stayed in a condo on top of the mountain overlooking the ski area. It was cool but a real bitch to drive up and down everyday to go to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. One day we went to Cherokee, NC through the National Park. We got over there and the park rangers closed the road back because too many people who had no clue how to drive on Ice and snow were skidding and getting stuck. To make a long story short we had to take the long way back around and spent like 6 hours of a day on a 3 hour trip.
For my birthday we went to the Black Bear Jamboree, a musical, dance animation thing. They have zilch in the way of things set up for the Deaf as of last year. (2nd year going. Went this year for the cousins). Last year my parents asked if they had listening divices and were told they could sit us near the front but didn't have amplifying equipment. I didn't know at the time I could request a script. No Ada complience it seems for Deaf there it seems. Last year I didn't hear what was going on so well even sitting near the front. This year we were higher up but center stage. I understood the songs some and part of the dialog enough to sort of know why everything was happening.
The kids had a good time and I liked it better than last year so it was okay. I didn't mind.
I'm thinking that on my website I might start a sort of journal. So I can talk about what I am learning and my thoughts and frustrations. When I was writing the story I used it for that purpose but now the story is finished so I think I'll try a journal. You all are welcome to comment if I do.
School starts again a week from Monday. My last semester if I'm lucky. I was happy that I managed to get a B- in ASL 3, last semester. I had no experience with ASL or signing of any type really before I started this program. It's like being thrown in a lake when you don't have a clue how to swim and being told swim or drown. I somehow have managed not to drown but just barely. My classes are all taught by Deaf (Culturally) who have Masters in ASL and teaching so I know I'm getting what I should be out of the program.
Okay I rambled enough,
Thanks again for the Birthday wishes. Java Thanks again for telling me I'm a good writer. And Levonith (Sorry can't spell) thanks for the thread I was so surprised to see it. Hugs to all.
