(AP) -- A Johns Hopkins Hospital gynecologist accused of secretly videotaping patients wore a pen around his neck that may have been used to conceal a camera, according to the employee who reported the doctor.

The employee told hospital officials of her suspicions Feb. 4, according to a letter from the hospital's CEO, Dr. Paul B. Rothman. The letter was dated Tuesday and sent to the law firm of Silverman Thompson Slutkin & White, which is working with the Maryland Crime Victims' Resource Center. The law firm gave a copy of the letter to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The employee's report to officials ultimately led to the discovery that Dr. Nikita Levy had been recording patients during exams at a Hopkins clinic. Police have said Levy, 54, killed himself in his home on Feb. 18.

Rothman's letter said the Hopkins employee had noticed what she believed to be a device, like a writing pen, that Levy had worn around his neck while examining patients. She said she believed the device was a camera.

Rothman writes that Hopkins security personnel questioned Levy at his office on Feb. 5, and devices similar to the one described by the employee were seen in the office and on Levy.

Levy was barred from patient contact that day and escorted off hospital grounds. Hopkins notified Baltimore police the day after, and investigators have said they found large amounts of multimedia evidence.

Police have said more than 2,000 patients and former patients of Levy have called a hotline set up by the hospital. Class-action lawsuits have been filed against Hopkins.

Meanwhile, investigators are trying to determine if anyone else was involved in making the records, and whether any have been posted on the Internet or sold.

What the eff!?

It's all good though. There's been a happy ending. See quote below.

I'm so glad that the person killed himself. Shows that nothing good comes from cheating.

killing self easy way out if got guts then stand trial explain why

I don't want to hear why. I just want him dead. I'm fine with him taking the easy way out BECAUSE it's easier on MY tax dollars. I do not want to pay for the expense of battling some doctor's high priced lawyers.

he needed humiliation also got find out who and how many others involved he took that info with him to hell

It is not going to save much money. Our tax dollars will still be afftected by this. Many of the women will sue the heck out of the Hospital. The cowardly doctor left all of the burden to a respectable hospital.

Wow, that's invasion of privacy and possibility violation of HIPAA.

BIG FINE for sure.

That is privately funded, not publicly funded. The hospital deserves to be hit by this. They were responsible for putting this madman into the trust of thousands of women.

Court cost is not privately funded. Sadly the hospital did put their trust in him like we do to people on a daily basis. Sadly people keep dark dirty secrets until they are busted. Not all "sex offenders" have records. If the hospital failed to do a background check and he has prior sexual offense then I can see the blame. As the laws are today, the hospital will be held accountable, Sadly.

Gives me the willies...and gonna be looking for anything that could be recorded next time I see my gynecologist....

Always had the impression that gynecologists, after a number of years...have seen so many women patients, (and their muffs and breasts) that they become so bored with it...and wondering if this doctor if he was selling the pixs, even posting them on porn sites??....Or just filming them for his own preverse pleasures?....

*fingers crossed my muff doesn't appear on any porn sites*....

Yes it is. The litigants have to pay court costs. This isn't a case of the state charging a person. This is two separate entities suing the other. Considering that, you COULD say that the state is going to be making money on this.

Yes, that's true about hospital will hit very hard and it is wasting of tax money that funded them.

Why do you think these health care insurance premiums are so high? Nobody is willingly to admit that their lawsuit insurance coverage is so high and they, of course passed to patients.

Sure, can lawsuit but the truth behind lawsuits is that NO one wins, everyone loses, period.
