Id like to know anyone of you ever made the gunpowder dip before? if so, what did you use the cream of soup for it.

I found the recipe online site but just couples of them.

Cooks.com - Recipe - Gunpowder Dip

GUNPOWDER DIP

1 1/2 lb. ground beef (browned)
1 can (11 oz.) cream of mushroom soup
2 lb. processed cheese (Velveeta)
1 stick butter
1 onion, chopped
2 tbsp. chili powder
1 c. picante sauce (Van DeWalle)

Brown meat and onion. Drain. Add all other ingredients and cook over medium heat until cheese melts. Serve in crockpot with tortilla chips.

I am not crazy about the cream of mushroom soup can. So I wonder if it goes well if i use the cream of celery soup instead? If it were you which soup do you plan to put in the gunpowder dip recipe that trades for cream of mushroom soup??

Thank you.

They have a cream of cheddar cheese soup that they recommend for cooking. It might work, since it seems to be a type of hot cheese dip?

My friend told me that she did use the cream of celery soup. It turns out that it tastes good. she didn't use the butter stick. :hmm:

You probably don't need the butter, because Velveeta is made to melt smoothly into a dip.

Gunpowder Dip

The recipe I have for this is at least 20 years old & was given to me by a coworker. It calls for Cream of Celery Soup, instead of Cream of Mushroom. Also it doesn't have butter in it. I cook the ground beef and onion, add it to the crock pot with the remaining ingredients. Serve it in bowls with tortilla chips. This has always been a hit when taken to parties. I'm making it to take to an annual Super Bowl party today.
