There was a girl at my school that had DS, her name was Casey. I tried to be friends with her, but she got hard to be around as she would be happy one minute and the next she would be fire hot mad and you're not sure what upset her in the first place. Sometimes I would catch myself wanting to grab her and shake her, then I would just stop, turn around and walk away and tell myself it's not worth it. Not because of her or the syndrome alone, but I think it was the combination of the two in which the syndrome just completely gave her a warped thought process. I was told that upon graduation she had barely completed the equivalent of a 4th grade education. I felt bad for her in a way that she would never be independent. I just hope that her family has something worked out to where she will be placed in a group home when her parents are no longer able to care for her.
