Hi everyone,
My name's Chris- I'm a freshman undergrad student (hearing) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I've recently taken a fervent interest in the Deaf culture and ASL. I've been reading Dr. Riekehof's The Joy of Signing and Carol Padden/Tom Humphries's Inside Deaf Culture and can't get enough of it!
On a related note, I didn't realize how developed the Deaf society is up here (RIT, St. Mary's in Buffalo, Rochester Method, etc.). Purely a coincidence. I will hopefully be taking a beginner's ASL class at URochester next semester.
With my interest in music education, performing, and the Deaf community, I am planning on exploring career opportunities that include the incorporation of these three things. Does anyone here have any experience with this?

Anyways, I'm sure I'll be posting questions in the future. Thanks for this great resource!

Chris, there is a folk fest in NY, Falcon Ridge that offers interpreted songs, with ASL 'terps.
