Swarm Of Bees Helps Shoplifter Escape Kmart

POSTED: 10:59 p.m. EDT June 11, 2003
UPDATED: 2:05 p.m. EDT June 12, 2003

SEDALIA, Mo. -- A swarm of honeybees paid the ultimate price so that a shoplifter could escape a Sedalia Kmart.

A man was spotted shoplifting by store security, who followed the suspect into a bathroom to confront him. But when personnel opened the bathroom door, about 100 honeybees buzzed out. The suspect apparently let the bees loose when he was in the bathroom.

"He probably started yelling 'Bees! Bees!' or whatever the case may be, then created that big diversion, then got out," said Cmdr. John DeGonia, of the Sedalia Police Department.

According to a police report, the man escaped with about $60 worth of CDs, perfume, batteries and a pair scissors.

Store employees used bug spray to kill the bees.

The buzz shocked workers and customers alike, but none of them was stung.

Lmao, It's funny as shit!

Good idea...now how do I get them all in a bottle?

It's better if it's killer bees! :p

Yeah, A swarm of honeybees are killer bees.

africa's killer bees are the most dangerous in the world... they would attack on u if u make noises.

DANG! if that guy may have gotten away with it, but pretty much would have freaked me out and surrendered myself just to get away from those bees! but DANG me doing that to other shoppers and all NO WAY !!!!! LOL!

Honeybees are not killer bees. Do your homework before you make that assumption! ;)

Deafclimber is more accurate. Killer bees came from Africa. Now, the killer bees are found in warmer areas of North and South America. When killer bees find a honeybee hive, they take over, kill or drive out the honeybees. This is as much as I can remember. I saw a PBS special on this growing issue.
